OpenVIN (https://cars.openblog.com) has no accounts and does not ask for your name, email or address. Anything you type into a search box or location field is used in your browser to show results and is not stored by us.
Your VIN
When you decode a vehicle identification number (VIN) on our VIN decoder, your browser sends the VIN directly to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vPIC service (vpic.nhtsa.dot.gov), and then sends the decoded make, model and model year to NHTSA's recall service (api.nhtsa.gov). The VIN never passes through our servers, is not put in the page address, and is not saved, logged or shared by OpenVIN. If you type a VIN on the home page, it is kept only in your browser tab's session storage long enough to open the decoder and is removed right away. NHTSA handles those requests under its own policies. Car pages also ask api.nhtsa.gov and data.transportation.gov for the latest recalls from your browser; no personal information is included.
Advertising and cookies
We show ads from Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to show ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can manage personalized ads at Google Ad Settings and learn more at How Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Server logs
Like most websites, our servers keep short-lived technical logs (IP address, browser type, page requested, time) to keep the site secure and working. We use them to count visits and block abusive traffic.
Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information
We do not sell personal information for money. Personalized advertising may count as "sharing" under some U.S. state laws (such as California's CCPA/CPRA). To opt out, turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser — we honor it automatically by requesting non-personalized ads — or email [email protected].
Children
This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
